Valley City Sign Sells to Experienced Business Leader

Comstock Park, Michigan, Oct. 9, 2024 – Valley City Sign announces the sale of the company to experienced business leader Wade Halma, a transaction that will ensure continued success serving more than 300 customers annually in West Michigan and across the U.S.

Halma takes the helm at Valley City Sign with more than 22 years of product development, engineering, quality and manufacturing experience working in a wide variety of industries, including consumer products, building supplies, industrial equipment and automotive. Prior to purchasing Valley City Sign, Halma served as vice president of operations for Metal Components LLC, where he directed operations to improve safety, quality and on-time delivery, managed production and led key strategic plan initiatives.

All team members will be retained, and Valley City Sign will continue manufacturing in its facility at 5009 West River Drive. The company has approximately 45 employees working in its 65,000 square feet facility. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are at the top of our game, and our forecast for the remainder of 2024 is very strong due to our team’s unrivaled commitment to exceeding our customers’ signage needs and expectations,” said Valley City Sign President Randy Czubko. “Selling the company allows our employee-owners to benefit from all of their incredible work. All these factors made it an optimal time to sell.

“The board and I are confident Wade is the right person to lead Valley City Sign. He exceeds all of our criteria for a new owner and president. He is a fantastic fit with our culture, and he brings a new level of energy and innovation to lead this business into the future.”

The sale comes as the full-service manufacturer of custom, commercial and architectural signs continues to grow in value and serve a broad range of clients that span from health care and municipalities to commercial and retail businesses. Established as Valley City Neon in 1948, Valley City Sign incorporated and changed its name in 1963. In 2006, the company transitioned into an employee stock ownership plan, or ESOP.

“It’s always been my dream to lead a business like Valley City Sign,” Halma said. “When the opportunity arose, I was immediately drawn to the company’s stellar culture, a talented team, customized in-house capabilities and impressive customer roster.

“Randy leaves us with an incredibly solid foundation. I appreciate his willingness to ensure a smooth transition so I can benefit from his vast experience and knowledge. I look forward to carrying on Valley City Sign’s legacy and vision of building quality products.”

To ensure a successful transition, Czubko will work alongside Halma through the end of 2024, when he will retire after nearly four decades with the company.

“It has been an honor to work for Valley City Sign for an incredible 37 years, the last 26 as president and CEO,” Czubko said. “I’m truly proud of all we’ve accomplished during my tenure and am looking forward to celebrating all of our team’s future successes under Wade’s leadership.”
